Memorial March - Score

$10.00

David Wallis Reeves (1838-1900) composed the Memorial March in 1886 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the settlement of Providence, Rhode Island. The march was performed by Reeves' American Band as the opening to the ceremony. The march music was included in the program. The march has optional organ and four-part choir parts.

Reeves was born in Oswego, NY. He was recruited by the American Band in February of 1866 and elected as the leader of the band in April. He would go on to add woodwinds to the band which had existed as a brass band since its founding in the 1830s. The band would become known as Reeves' American Band. In 1892 Reeves became director of Patrick Gilmore's 22nd N.Y. Regiment Band after Gilmore's death, but after one year, returned to the American Band in Providence. He died on March 8, 1900. John Philip Sousa sent 200 roses to his funeral in his memory.
