Yacht “America” Schottisch

Johann Munck

Johann Munck composed The Yacht "America" Schottisch in 1851. He dedicated the work to Commodore John C. Stevens. In 1844, Stevens was named the first Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. In 1851, he launched the "America" and won a 53-mile regatta known as the Squadron's "One Hundred Sovereign Cup" by 18 minutes. The race was later renamed The America's Cup. The yacht spent time in Newport as a training ship for the U.S. Naval Academy while the academy was stationed in Newport during the Civil War.
