Polka Mazurka, “The Dauntless”

Charles Émile Waldteufel composed this polka mazurka in 1871. The "Dauntless" was the yacht owned by James Gordon Bennett, Jr. The piano arrangement was done by Thomas Baker.

Bennett became the publisher of the New York Herald in 1867. He served as the Commodore of the New York Yacht Club and founded the Newport Casino.

In 1866, the 97-foot keel sloop "L'Hirondelle" was built. One year later, the yacht was purchased by Bennett. He added 23 feet to her length and rechristened her the "Dauntless." He would own the "Dauntless" until 1879.
