Conductors Dr. Christopher Brellochs and Dr. Mark Stickney will present a program exploring our country’s musical past. The first half of the program will feature music celebrating America by European composers. The second half will explore Newport’s musical history from the American Revolution into the 20th century. The music you will hear includes the first piece performed in celebration of the American Centennial in Newport’s Washington Square on July 4, 1876!
Historic Music of Newport’s Gilded Age Orchestra is a professional orchestra made up of musicians from the southern New England region. The mission of the orchestra is to preserve and perform the music of the Gilded Age and explore the musical history of the City-by-the-Sea. The ensemble is dedicated to improving the cultural vitality of the community and furthering the public’s understanding of this music through high-quality, historically informed performances and educational programming.
Doors open at 5:30 pm for a reception before the program begins.
